HVAO Election Process & Results

At the Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization, we believe that the integrity of our election process is foundational to the trust and confidence of our members. We are proud to reaffirm our dedication to transparency and fairness at every step.

Our ballots were administered through Qualtrics, a leading survey and data management platform, ensuring a secure and reliable voting experience for all eligible members. We weeded out ballots cast using duplicate IP addresses and geolocation coordinates. We consulted with legal counsel and Harvard Alumni Association to ensure that our process is considered valid, and HAA affirmed their recognition of the election results. All results have been recorded and are maintained for the organization's records.

Below are the results. There were a total of 180 valid ballots. Each ballot could select up to 10 individuals. Percentages have been rounded to the nearest whole number. The five individuals with the most number of votes were selected to join the Board. This number was chosen because HAA recognizes the 2024 HVAO Bylaws Article III section 1, which state, “The general management and oversight of the affairs of the Corporation shall be vested in a Board of Directors, which shall consist of not fewer than one (1) and not more than ten (10) individuals. The Board of Directors shall have and may exercise all powers of the Corporation, except for those powers that are reserved to the Members by law, the Articles of Organization, or these by-laws.” Five individuals join the four current Directors to make a board of nine. Nine was the number chosen so that there is less likelihood of having a tie in any vote.

The current Directors did not have any control over who was nominated or elected. This was so that HVAO could maintain 2024 Bylaws Article II section 1, which states, “The Members of the Corporation shall have the authority to elect, remove, or suspend Officers and Directors and shall exercise such other powers as are provided by law, the Articles of Organization, or these by-laws.”

We are committed to conducting elections that our members can trust. If you have any questions about the process or would like additional information about how the election was administered, we encourage you to reach out to the board directly.
